POPLAR CREEK’S THIRD SEASON–1982

In the third year of Poplar Creek’s operation, they opened their season one week later and closed down one week earlier than the prior year.  Maybe they learned something from the weather?

Steve DahlJohn Denver did not appear this year but Elton John did.   This was also the year we had a local act for the first time–Steve Dahl, Garry Meier and Teenage Radiation.  It was also the first year for a couple of comedy acts–Joan Rivers and David Brenner, as well as Rodney Dangerfield–as one of our readers pointed out.  And to class it up a bit, the Warsaw Philharmonic appeared too.  joan rivers

The only acts who appeared for the third year in a row were:  Santana, Jimmy Buffett,  Jefferson Starship, Beach Boys, Anne Murray, James Taylor,  and Willie Nelson.  Won’t it be interesting to see which of this group continued their run and appeared in 1983?

I assume in addition to David Brenner and Joan Rivers as the first time ever comedy acts at Poplar… Rodney Dangerfield was also considered a comedy act and part of that list.

Thanks for noticing poor ol’ Rodney was left out of the special mention. I’ve corrected that.

If he were hear today he would say, “no respect… I’ll tell ya”…LOL!!!
Love this site BTW! Grew up in Hoffman and my house was the first one erected on Freeman Rd (and pretty much all of that development) when the Westbury subdivision was built. I love reading about all the HE and Schaumburg history. Brings me back to when I was a little kid, Freeman was a dirt road and out my front window were cornfields as far as i could see and a farm a few blocks away (which later was used as Mayor O’Malley’s home). Keep up the great work!!!
